2017 WINTER SCHEDULE AT THE ARTS COUNCIL OF PRINCETON

acp

Although I am an artist first, I love to teach art. My students have ranged in age from two to 100-years old. In teaching a wide spectrum of ages and abilities, I have learned that art is a journey. All people are artists within–it’s just a matter of time and focus and belief that their voice is worthy of being heard that transforms them into a practicing artist. Anyone can learn the technical skills of art making with enough time and patience. The exciting part is when a person realizes that their unique voice is worth expressing–and they go for it. My goal as an art teacher is to encourage those on the fence–to identify their voice, and believe in it, and make art without ever looking back.

QUICK LINKS TO AVAILABLE CLASSES

spacer WATERCOLOR: FOCUS ON THE FIGURE
All Levels
This class is designed for the watercolor enthusiast who wants to focus on figure painting, but is not yet comfortable painting from a model. Inspiration from paintings and photographs will allow students to explore the figure without pressure. Emphasis on anatomy and proportion will be the focus in the beginning. However, students are encouraged to stretch and tweak the figures as they get more comfortable drawing the human form.
Location: Paul Robeson Center for the Arts
Ages: 16+
Thursdays, 10:00am–12:30pm
January 12 - March 2, 2017 (8 Weeks)

spacer DRAWING WITH PERSPECTIVE
All Levels
This drawing class will only focus on perspective drawing, and the principles involved. Learn how to plot out a drawing accurately in 1pt, 2pt, 3pt, 4pt–even 5pt perspective! After all this experience, learning how to draw accurately in perspective will become easier, and the ability to ballpark the lines will become second nature.
Location: Paul Robeson Center for the Arts
Ages: 16+
Thursday, 1:00–3:00pm
January 19 - February 23, 2017 (6 Weeks)
Limit:10 students

spacer PICTURE BOOK ILLUSTRATION
All Levels
Trade picture books are a unique art form. Somewhere between fine art and commercial art, picture books often capture the imagination of the adult as well as a child. Come and learn how to make your own compelling picture book illustrations– for the fun of making beautiful, communicative art, or for a portfolio to submit to an art director. If you have a book dummy in progress, this class is a great place to finish what you have started. No prior experience is necessary.
Location: Paul Robeson Center for the Arts
Ages: 16+
Tuesdays, 10:00am–12:30pm
January 10 - February 28, 2017 (8 Weeks)
Limit:10 students

spacer YOUNG ARTISTS: BASICS I & II

In this new 7-week course, young artists will learn basic artistic principles – developing skills and confidence each session. Color theory, perspective, proportion will be balanced with imaginative art making! The goal is to make learning drafting skills accessible to younger artists while having fun.

Each portfolio should reflect the unique voice of the artist–showcasing a high level of skill that lets a third-party viewer (such as a school) easily understand the artist's point of view.
